Minstry of Love
If you know me, I have a great fear of cockroaches, especially flying cockroaches that come out of my air-conditioner.
(fill in the blanks)
CY fears _______________.
Pam fears _________________.
Jeremy fears ________________.
Jerelyn fears _________________.
TY fears _________________.
Rey fears _________________.
And this list goes on. Each of us has our own fear. And fear is subjective. What may be scary to you may be peanuts to another person. I fear cockroaches but my brother can crush 3 under his big foot. Subjective fear just came to my mind last night because of a book I've recently finished.
In "Nineteen Eighty Four", the Party locks rebels in the Ministry of Love where they use fear on them. The thing is, because fear is subjective, they would only expose you to the greatest thing you fear. When faced with the greatest fear of your life, with no support, no encouragement, and after months of torture, you will come to a point of breaking down. Whatever you have been holding on to and whoever you have been trying to protect just doesn't make sense anymore. In that kind of situation, you will just break down to the extent of screaming out "Don't do it to me!! Do it to ______" and that name will be the person you have vowed to protect.
Do not say that you will never betray the person you love because you never know until you are in that situation. Remember: words are cheap.
