Desperate Housewives
Today's episode of "Desperate Housewives" made me think. Especially the part about the men committing adultery. Out of the 4 main characters, 3 husbands have committed adultery and they have always gotten away with it. Or at least, wish to get away with it.
I can't stand such attitude. It's not a matter that the show is based in US and that it's normal in US. It's the attitude. If any man ever thought that he can get away and be forgiven after having an affair, he can stop thinking. At least, with me.
I think I'm like Lynette.
Before my marriage, I'll be the work manic. After marriage, I'm willing to give up my career for my family. So if I ever find out that my husband is cheating on me, I will bring my kids and walk out of that house and he can be sure that he will never see us again. If my children ask me where their father is, I'll tell them the truth. A man who has no regards for his marriage and family does not deserve respect from anyone, especially not his children. If there's anyone to blame for their single parent situation, it's their father. Oh, before leaving that house, I'll empty his pockets and bank accounts.
Don't talk to me about forgiveness. Did the Hebrews forgive the woman who was caught committing an adultery? No, they wanted to stone her but what about the man? He got away scot-free.
I don't know whether I can forgive because anyone who has once lost my trust will never find it back again. Even if I love him, I can't continue living with a person who has broken his commitment. A marriage is denounced void when any one of us breaks that commitment to each other and to God.
Maybe I'm too young to say. Especially since I've not started off yet when it comes to dating and relationships. But adultery is wrong. The women of the past generation may be able to keep mum about it but in these days, we are more educated. I definitely cannot take anyone cheating me, much less the man whom I say the vows to before God.
One day, if I ever forget what I've just written and what I've always believed, I give you permission to slap me.
